Indian Army TES Selection Process
The Indian Army offers the Indian Army Technical Entry Scheme (Army TES) for candidates to become officers in the Engineering Core of the Army. This opportunity is available twice a year. To be eligible for the TES, candidates must have successfully completed 12th standard in the Science stream.
What is the Process for Army TES?
The selection process for the Army TES involves multiple stages. It begins with an online application, followed by a shortlisting of candidates based on their academic qualifications. Shortlisted candidates are then required to appear for a written examination, which tests their knowledge and skills in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, and General Knowledge.
Candidates who successfully clear the written examination move on to the next stage, which is the interview round. This interview is conducted by a panel of experienced officers who assess the candidates’ aptitude, leadership qualities, and communication skills. The interview is an important aspect of the selection process as it helps determine the suitability of the candidates for an officer role in the Engineering Core.
After the interview, the final selection is made based on the candidates’ performance in both the written examination and the interview. Those who are selected are then admitted to an engineering course approved by the Army.
Upon successful completion of the engineering course, the candidates are appointed directly to the rank of Lieutenant in the Indian Army. This rank is a starting point for their career as officers in the Engineering Core, and they will have the opportunity to serve their country with honor in various capacities.
Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the Indian Army TES:

Indian Army TES Selection Process After 10+2
The selection process for the Indian Army Technical Entry Scheme (TES) involves a series of steps to ensure that the most suitable candidates are chosen for the program.
1. Interview Process: Candidates are selected for the Army Technical Entry Scheme through an interview conducted by the Army Staff Selection Board (SSB). The selection is based on the merit list prepared according to the marks obtained in the 12th standard examination. The interview process lasts for five days and includes a Psychological Test, Group Test, and Interview.
2. Medical Test: Candidates who are declared successful in the interview round are called for a medical test. Those who qualify the medical tests are then included in the final merit list based on the number of vacancies. The selected candidates are then sent to three technical institutions, namely the College of Military Engineering (CME), Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), and Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) for their training.
3. Training: The selected candidates undergo a five-year training program. The first year of training, known as Basic Military Training, is conducted at the Officer Training Academy (OTA) in Gaya, Bihar.
After the completion of Basic Military Training, candidates are given four years training in two phases out of which three years in Phase-1 and remaining one year in Phase-2.
- Phase-1 Training: This phase is referred to as Pre-Commission Training, lasts for three years. It is conducted at CME in Pune, Maharashtra, or MCTE in Mho, Madhya Pradesh, or MCEME in Secunderabad, Telangana.
- Phase-2 Training: This phase, known as Post-Commission Training, lasts for one year. It is conducted at MCTE in Mho, Madhya Pradesh, or MCEME in Secunderabad, Telangana.
The training program consists of a total of eight semesters across two phases. Candidates need to successfully complete all the semesters. Upon completion of training, candidates are awarded an engineering degree.
Candidates who are awarded with an engineering degree are given a Permanent Commission in the Army Engineering Core and start their career as a Lieutenant. After two years as a Lieutenant, officers are promoted to the rank of Captain and can continue to progress to higher ranks in subsequent years.
