The Air Force Common Admission Test 2024 registration details can be accessed at the official website, candidates who want to apply for this test should read all the details carefully. The number of vacancies announced for AFCAT 2024 are 317. Candidates must check all the required criteria before filling the form because if given details do not meet with the candidates, their candidature will be canceled.

What is AFCAT?

The Indian Air Force provides two types of services- flying branch and non-technical ground duty. So, the candidates who are applying for AFCAT can be part of any of the services. But those candidates who want to join the ground duty technical branch have to qualify both AFCAT and EKT.

AFCAT Exam Pattern 2024

The AFCAT is conducted by the Indian Air Force to select deserving officers for various branches. The exam pattern is based on the 100 multiple choice questions of 300 marks. The question paper is framed on the basis of the verbal ability, gk, numericals, reasoning, and military aptitude. Whereas, candidates who have applied for Ground Duty have to answer questions based on mechanical, computer science, electrical and electronics subjects.

AFCAT Selection Process 2024

The AFCAT 2024 selection procedure is completely based on the four stages, which consist of a written exam, AFSB interview, document verification, and medical exam. After clearing all these stages the final merit list is framed of all the selected candidates. But candidates who are planning to apply for AFCAT should practice thoroughly because exams and AFSB interviews are very crucial and tough.

Phase-1 AFCAT Written Exam

The AFCAT written exam is divided into four parts which consist of General Awareness, Numerical Ability and Reasoning, Verbal Ability in English, and Military Aptitude test. The AFCAT exam pattern is based on the 100 multiple choice questions of 300 marks. Whereas, Engineering Knowledge Test consists of 50 multiple choice questions of 150 marks.

Phase-2 AFSB Interview

The Indian Air Force compiles a list of candidates who succeed in the written exam so that they can appear for the AFSB Interview. Whereas, candidates through NCC special entry and Meteorology Branch are directly called for the AFSB Interview and it is categorized in two stages.

AFCAT Document Verification 2024

Candidates who are shortlisted have to undergo the Air Force Selection Board testing. At the center candidates have to verify all the essential documents like original 10+2 mark sheet along with certificate, id proof, passport size photograph, and original valid commercial pilot license is required if a candidate is applicable.

Stage 1 of AFSB Interview

The AFSB Interview is a five day selection process which is divided into two stages and various tasks are given to the candidates in order to check their personality. A screening test is considered as the first stage of the AFSB interview which is held on the first day. This test is categorized in two parts. First is the Officer Intelligence Rating test and second is Picture Perception and Discussion test.

In the OIR test, candidates have to illustrate their logical ability and quantitative ability to succeed. Whereas, during the PPDT candidates are shown a picture for a short duration of time and then they have to recognise the main character and frame a story accordingly. At last, once the story is created candidates have to discuss their story during group discussion.

Stage 2 of AFSB Interview

The second stage of AFSB interview is conducted to check the mental strength of a candidate. This stage is considered as a lengthy selection process, in which a Psychological test, computerized Pilot Selection System test, Group test, and Personal interview is conducted. Once candidates clear the first stage of AFSB interview, they appear for the psychological test like Thematic Apperception test, Word Association test, Situation Reaction test, and Self-Description test.

The Group Testing Officers test comprises plenty of tasks, where candidates are put in critical and tricky situations and candidates are divided into various groups assigned by the GT Officers, to complete all the tasks together. After the GTO round candidates have to appear for a Personal Interview which is conducted by an Interviewing Officer. Once all the tests are cleared selected candidates are sent for medical examination.

AFCAT Medical Exam

All the candidates who qualify the online exam as well as the AFSB testing have to report to the Air Force Central Medical Establishment, at New Delhi or at the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru for the medical exam. This exam is conducted to check whether the candidate is mentally and physically fit or not. Therefore, candidates must be prepared for this exam and if they are suffering from any disease they should not hide.

AFCAT Merit List

Once the medical exam is completed all those candidates who have cleared all the stages will be selected for the Indian Air Force. The final merit list of the candidates will be displayed by their names along with the scores obtained in AFCAT online test, AFSB interview, and Medical exam.


All the candidates who are shortlisted in the written exam, AFSB interview, and Medical exam undergo extensive training, it is a part of their onboarding process. Moreover, the training duration of technical branch and non-technical branch differs from each other. Therefore, candidates should acknowledge the complete selection process thoroughly before applying for AFCAT, so that they do not struggle in the middle of the selection process.
